Programs focusing on our most valuable asset: our people.
Employee Empowerment
Mentoring Program
This program was created in 2014 to support Chesterton’s professional development initiatives. Employees are required to apply for the program, and then mentees are paired with mentors for 12 weeks. Employees who participate in the Mentoring Program develop their skills, get experience, and gain exposure to senior staff. The session finishes off with a Capstone Presentation, where the mentee has the opportunity to present an improvement opportunity or program that closely aligns to Chesterton’s strategic objectives to Executives and other stakeholders.
Career Development Plans (CDP)
Under the philosophy of, "You Drive, We Assist," the CDP allows any employee to structure a short-term (6-12 weeks) training plan in conjunction with HR that will allow them to gain knowledge, and exposure to new areas of the organization. The CDP is comprised of three focus areas: an area of strength that the employee wants to refine or transmit; something that the employee wants experience with or exposure to; and something that Chesterton wants the employee to have experience with or exposure to. The SMART goal-setting methodology is used to build out short-term, realistic, and achievable tasks that the employee can work to complete.
Succession Development Program
First implemented in 2018, the Chesterton Succession Development Program is a proactive and systematic process where we identify key positions considered to be at the core of the organization and then create a strategic plan to fill those positions with qualified and capable internal talent. Succession Development at Chesterton is fluid and ongoing, and consists of annual formal strategy and planning sessions between functional departments and Human Resources, with periodic check-ins on succession activities throughout the year.
Chesterton Pre-Retirement Program
In 2023, Chesterton kicked off a Pre-Retirement Program for all US employees. The overall goal of the program is to let employees know that if they're close to retirement, the Company will work with them and arrange ways of making the transition into retirement easier, while also sustaining their previous Chesterton knowledge and arranging a successor before they exit the company. Each employee's plan is customized based on their individual needs and retirement timeline, with input from the employee's functional department, as well as Human Resources.
