1600
- Advanced, Reinforced Exfoliated Graphite Packing
Chesterton 1600 packing is an off-the-spool nickel alloy wire-reinforced flexible graphite packing with blocking agents for multi-service performance.
1600 features layers of graphite tape, piled into compact strands. Each strand is reinforced with nickel alloy wire mesh covering. The strands are square plait braided to form a dense but pliable packing. The exterior of 1600 packing is impregnated with special lubricating agents to reduce stem friction and a corrosion inhibitor to prevent against pitting.
This results in a non-hardening, flexible packing that will not shrink or absorb moisture. The graphite layered tape strands within the braided plaits are able to slide over each other in response to gland pressure.
